Tsar & Tsai Foundation, together with the Taiwan Bar Association, jointly hosted the lecture titled “Taiwan’s Legal History that wasn’t Taught in School” on November 6, 2025. The Foundation was honored to invite Chair Professor Tay-Sheng Wang of National Taiwan University College of Law as the keynote speaker. Recognizing that current legal education curricula pay relatively limited attention to Taiwan’s legal history and that practicing lawyers seldom have the opportunity to explore such topics in depth, Professor Wang’s research provides a comprehensive analysis of the evolution and characteristics of Taiwan’s legal system from a local legal perspective. His findings not only bridge a knowledge gap in the practical legal community regarding Taiwan’s legal history but also help to broaden lawyers’ professional perspectives and enrich their cultural understanding.
At the conclusion of the lecture, Professor Wang encouraged lawyers to develop a profound understanding of Taiwan’s history and lived experiences, and to take these as the foundation for shaping a legal system with distinctly Taiwanese characteristics: one that reflects social realities and better serves the needs of the people.
