Ms. Sophia Hsieh joined Tsar & Tsai Law Firm as an associate partner in February 2009. Sophia has been practicing law since 1995. Prior to joining Tsar & Tsai, Sophia served as Regional Legal Counsel for Prudential Corporation Asia in Hong Kong. Sophia Hsieh also served as the General Counsel and Compliance Officer for PCA Life Assurance Co. Ltd. from November 2002 to August 2008.

Sophia Hsieh specializes in foreign investment, insurance, corporate, securities, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions, internal controls and regulatory compliance.

Sophia had represented many multinational clients in setting up their business presence in Taiwan, including advising on proper legal structures and drafting shareholders agreements and joint venture agreements. Sophia is also experienced in mergers & acquisitions. Her experiences in this area includes conducting legal due diligence review, drafting and negotiating transaction documents, advising on employment and regulatory compliance issues and applying for required regulatory approvals.

When serving as an in-house legal counsel, Sophia advised the business on a wide range of operation and management issues including reviewed key business initiatives, reviewed the effectiveness of internal procedures to ensure compliance, participated in business planning process, served as a member of risk management committee, customer complaints handling committee, claims committee, agency disciplinary committee and product steering committee, advised human resources committee on disciplinary actions, reported to Audit Committee on compliance issues, reviewed and signed off insurance products, sales literatures and advertisements, drafted and negotiated contracts, advised the business on litigations and legal issues to provide solutions, conducted regular and ad-hoc reviews on sales compliance and key business process, liaised with regulator and trade association on legal and compliance issues, provided legal and compliance training, advised and responsible for money laundering prevention, fraud prevention, anti-bribery and communications of new laws and regulations as well as changes of laws and regulations.

Prior to taking on the in-house role, Sophia was an associate attorney with Formosa Transnational, Attorneys at Law.
